VW Touareg
With the launch of its restyled Touareg 2, Volkswagen pushes one of the world's most successful premium SUVs to a new plateau. No small feat for a vehicle that has set records – from the highest volcanic peaks in Chile to the dunes of the legendary Dakar Rally. The Touareg 2 is a masterpiece of German engineering for adventure lovers seeking the most capable on- or off-road vehicle built with the driving dynamics and value only Volkswagen can deliver.
Now, the next generation Touareg 2 promises to offer the premium SUV buyer even more power, safety, comfort, and versatile on- or off-road ability. Produced with Volkswagen's demanding production tolerances, close attention to detail, and consistent use of high-quality materials, the Touareg 2 is set to capitalize on the success of its predecessor. Most importantly, the Touareg 2 is an off-road vehicle with the comfort of a luxury sedan and the dynamic driving characteristics of a sports car. This positioning also is reflected in the new design that radiates contemporary elegance and self-assured dynamics.
The prevent and preserve safety system
After a whole bunch of smashing, banging and crunching, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) awarded the Passat four stars for both driver and passenger frontal crash protection, five stars for the driver and four stars for the rear passenger side crash protection. As fantastic as these ratings are, they don’t come as a very big surprise to those at VW. Ask Adrian Hallmark, executive vice president of Volkswagen of America, Inc., about the Volkswagen philosophy on safety; and he’ll tell you it’s to “bring the most effective active and passive safety technology to the widest range of models, at a moderate price.” That's not all, Volkswagens are also designed to meet the stringent safety requirements demanded by the Autobahn.
Among the active safety equipment (the equipment that prevents the accidents from happening in the first place) you’ll find standard four-wheel disc brakes in conjunction with what VW calls alphabet brakes, named for the fact that most parts of the braking system are referred to using acronyms. Start with Anti-lock Braking System (ABS), which VW has been using in passenger vehicles for over 20 years, along with Engine Braking Assist (EBA), Electronic Stabilization Program (ESP), Anti-Slip Regulation (ASR), Electronic Differential Lock (EDL), Electronic Brake-pressure Distribution (EBD) and Hydraulic Brake Assist (HBA) and you’ve got the VW alphabet
braking system.
Volkswagen of America is excited to announce a partnership with www.Carbonfund.org that will help the entire community of VW owners to start tackling the issue of carbon emissions. If you own a VW, and want to initiate change to offset your vehicle's carbon emissions, you can visit www.Carbonfund.org to use simple tools to gauge your output and take action towards offsetting it. And VW will be right behind you. In fact, to kick-start the project, Volkswagen will offset one year of carbon emissions for every new Volkswagen purchased from September 1, 2007 through January 2, 2008.
